Nelson's Hardware

This was the second location for Nelson's Hardware - 43-16 Greenpoint Avenue, records of their original location are lost.. This picture gives more information then originally meets the eye. The gentleman on the second floor looking out was Real Estate broker Mr. Labelle who's office was directly above Nelson's.  Store on the left was vacant, at the time this picture was taken, it was the original location (43-18 Greenpoint Avenue)  of the Woodside Herald which had just moved to across the street, where there was more room for their presses. The most important fact in this picture, is that block was then in Woodside, Long Island, and later be came part of Sunnyside. That now explains why the name of  the newspaper is the "Woodside Herald".

Nelson's used the space above the empty store to advertise their Seeds and fertilizes. Sunnyside still had farms and lots of open spaces at that time. Anyone who knows the original location of their first store, we would love to hear from you. Same holds true if you know the make and year of the truck parked outside the store.
