Last Great Egg Creams

Paul's Candy Store located at 43rd Street & 47th Avenue (across the street from Thomson Hill Park) was perhaps the last place in Sunnyside to get the best egg creams. Paul & Fay Gross operated the store and knew everyone in the neighborhood. They kept long hours and were always there when you needed something. If you blew a fuse, or ran out of aspirins they had it somewhere in their store. The thing I remember the most besides getting the Sunday paper late on Saturday night, was Paul's chocolate egg creams. Mr. & Mrs. Gross sold their store in 1983 and the first thing the new owners did was take out the soda fountain. The place was never the same.
