Sunnyside Avenue

This picture of Sunnyside Avenue taken in 1922, looking towards Manhattan (which can't be seen in this picture) by a unidentified photographer comes to us through the efforts of the" New York Historical Society".
We are now researching this photograph, we believe "Sunnyside Avenue" was between Skillman Avenue and Northern Blvd and is now part of the Railroad Tracks. Keep in mind in the late twenties and early thirties the Post Offices stated changing street names to numeric numbers for there convinces, and many street names were lost forever. In later years the post office would try and lump communities together like making Long Island City, Astoria, Sunnyside all under the postal listing of Long Island City, or Woodside, Jackson Heights Forest Hills, Whitestone all under the postal listing of Flushing. Area residents resisted and kept their community names intact. Sadly that was not the case of some of the other boroughs.
